The school becomes the third Anglophone
school in central Geneva (together with the
International School of Geneva and Institut
International de Lancy) and is the only
one to offer an exclusively British curriculum.
Students aged from 11 to 18 study all
subjects in English and are taught by wellqualified
British staff. It is also much smaller
in size with a maximum capacity of 250 students
as compared to well over 4,000 in the
International School Foundation.
Pictured during the unveiling ceremony
above, Douglas S. Crawford, Director General
of ASC International House which owns and
runs Geneva Secondary School, commented:
“Geneva Secondary School has been created
in response to a need in the region for more
places and more choice for English-speaking
children. We are not trying to compete with
the other schools in Geneva, both of which
are excellent schools in their own right. We
are trying to be different in order to offer more
choice to parents in our region. Our class
sizes are limited to sixteen in the lower school
and ten in the upper school and we only offer
tuition in English – no bilingual programme
and no Francophone programme. We aim to
offer value for money and outstanding client
care which is why our fees are considerably
lower than in other schools. As this is a British
school, operating a British curriculum and as
many of our directors and teachers are British
citizens it is a genuine pleasure for us to welcome
our Ambassador as our guest of honour
today”. The school follows the British curriculum
(key stages 3 and 4) before students take
IGCSE examinations at the end of year 11.
Students then move into the A Level college where three subjects are sufficient for entry
into most universities. Situated in beautiful
premises in Châtelaine, just a few minutes
from the motorway, the school is also wellserved
by public transport with two main line
bus routes stopping outside the front door.
Raji Sundaram, Principal of Geneva Secondary
School, observed: “Our A-Level College
has been running since 2005 and has been a
runaway success. One of the most satisfying
parts of the job is seeing so many of our students reaching university through the A Level
system – for many of these students Maturité
or IB (which demand far more subjects) simply
is not an option. Being able to specialise
in only three strong subjects at A Level is of
huge advantage to some students and opens
doors which would have otherwise remained
closed.”
