Toastmasters International is a non-profi tmaking organization established in California, USA, in 1924 to provide a platform for people to practise and develop their public speaking skills. There are currently 235,000 members in 11,700 clubs in 92 countries.
Experienced Toastmasters at UNOG decided to set up a club within the UN premises in 2008. The club meets on Wednesday evenings at 6 p.m., and on Thursday lunchtime at 12.15.
The meetings are structured with arranged
speeches, and also offer impromptu speech
practice for those who sometimes fi nd themselves
called upon “to say a few words”!
The atmosphere is light, the speeches are fun, and competence and confi dence in speaking in front of an audience come surprisingly fast. Public speaking is a very useful skill to acquire in terms of both personal and professional development. Toastmasters also promotes discipline (make your point within the time allotted) and fellowship.
Come and join us.
