UNCC MOURNS THE SUDDEN LOSS OF A DEAR COLLEAGUE AND FRIEND

Mr Michael Raboin

Many of you have already heard the shocking news about our dear friend and colleague, Mr. Michael Raboin, who passed away in a car accident in Kuwait on the evening of 8 April
2008. Since circulating our initial message about Mike’s untimely passing, we at the UNCC have received an enormous number of calls and messages from many of the people who knew him. The UNCC and Mike’s family wish to thank all of those who have expressed their support and kind wishes to them. Mike’s wife and children have conveyed to us that at this incredibly difficult time, knowing that there are so many caring people sending their thoughts and support has been very helpful.
Brilliant and ever professional, Mike has had enormous professional success and each of the organisations with which he has been involved, especially the UNCC where he worked over fifteen years, will be affected by this loss.Mike was a brilliant man whose professional success mirrored his personal strength of character. His work ethic and professional dedication were paired with a deep warmth and genuine kindness that was felt by everyone who had the opportunity to know him. We will surely also remember Mike for his constant willingness to lend a hand, the warmth and sincerity he shared in his interpersonal dealings, and his unique and friendly character. Mike was a very special man who touched the lives of many people, and this terrible loss will be deeply felt by each of them.
The United States Consulate in Kuwait and Mission in Geneva, the PAAC offices in Kuwait, UNRoD in Vienna, and the Director of the Kuwait UN Liaison Office in Geneva have been extremely helpful in doing as much as possible to assist Mike’s family with the necessary formalities in these difficult circumstances. We are grateful to them.
We express our deepest condolences to Mike’s family and to everyone else who is touched by this tragedy.
Mike was loved by all of us, and we will all dearly miss him.
