Ecuador
Ecuador exports more bananas than any other country in the world
Because Ecuador’s geographical location gives it a distinct advantage in agricultural
and agro-industrial production, Ecuador is the world’s premier exporter
of bananas, which are available year round due to the 0.00 Latitude that the
country sits on, therefore enjoying year – round tropical climates. Currently
the country exports mainly to the United States, Russia, Japan, China and
the European Union. Over 130,000 hectares currently are devoted to planting
bananas. The government of Ecuador estimates that over 385,000 people work
in the country’s banana industry.
All pictures were taken at one of the banana plantations of the WONG GROUP,
an entity deeply dedicated to its social and environmental commitments, such
as education and healthcare in rural Ecuador.
