BAZAAR 2006

HEMA SERVANSING

The United Nations Women’s Guild wishes to announce the Annual International Bazaar, to be held on Tuesday 21 November 2006, please mark your calendar. Come and discover the culture and traditions of all the countries participating through the showcase of handicrafts, typical products, the flavours and tastes of a myriad of dishes.
The Bazaar is a noble expression of our determination to assist the most vulnerable and needy children of this global village to which we all belong.
In our daily life, we seem to be content with the things around us and our way of living; however in many parts of the world there are unfortunately too many conflicts, atrocities, natu ral calamities and social unrest. Every one should be aware of the challenges and it should be more than just a humanitarian concern. As long as there is danger to peace, stability, security and environmental sustainability in this fragile world, there will be poverty and little or no development. Social progress, technical and economic development cannot happen without proactive involvement of all. Development has been defined as knowledge being applied to bring about change for the better. Women, the vital half of humanity, work together and are often the key agents of change. The UNWG sponsors small projects and with the collaboration of the local human capital of those countries aim at giving a helping hand to the children in need. Basic necessities, education, sports, social integration of vulnerable groups, basic medical care, dental care and vocational training are some of the sectors towards which we gear our support.
The Bazaar has been a major fundraising event for the past years and all through these countless years, volunteers contributed time, energy and know-how. This event brings together the Missions, private companies, UNOG and a large number of UNWG members and their friends who unite their efforts in making the bazaar a success.
Success for us, for you and for the children we want to assist will follow careful planning, coordination at every level, execution of all the elements, and thorough preparations.
Our Bazaar committee members renewed their commitment and with the same spirit of fostering international friendship have spared no effort in assisting me in the extensive preparations of the Bazaar. We all look forward to seeing you on the Tuesday 21 November, at Door 40 - Palais des Nations and count you as one of the proud participants of this major fundraising activity.
Thank You.
Every child has the right to happiness.
