From the 13th through the 17th of February
2006, presidents of staff unions/associations
of the global UN Secretariat and
several UN agencies met in New York for the
XXIst CCISUA Assembly.
CCISUA is the global staff federation that provides
representation on common system issues
for staff before the intergovernmental bodies,
particularly the International Civil Service Commission
and the Fifth Committee of the UN General
Assembly. Currently, the membership
includes the staff unions/associations of:
UN/New York, UNOG, UNOV, UNON, ESCWA,
ECA, ESCAP, ECLAC, Field Staff Union, UNU,
ICTY, ICTR, UNICEF, UNHCR, ILO and UNIDO.
At this year’s session, CCISUA welcomed the
UNIDO Staff Union for the first time, as its
newest member. The representatives of the staff
union at UNIDO will bring the unique perspective
of the specialized agencies into the deliberations
of CCISUA and will focus the work of the
federation towards common system issues.
CCISUA tackled a very comprehensive
agenda including: Security and Safety of Staff,
Local salary survey methodologies, pension
issues, United Nations reform, and the Internal
system of justice. CCISUA was privileged to
meet with the Secretary-General on the issue of
staff-management relations. The Secretary-General agreed to a number of enhancements to
the manner in which staff and management deal
with issues.
The Deputy Secretary-General provided a briefing
on United Nations Reform, for information
only. The UN Redesign Panel also answered questions
by CCISUA representatives and encouraged
the members to send concrete proposals.
The report of the session will be circulated
for the information of all staff. It will also be
available on its website: www.ccisua.com or
www.ccisua.org.
