Methodology for Non HQ Duty Stations — 12-16 December 2005, Tunis
FICSA Workshops on GS Salary Survey
Maria Dweggah, WHO
Workshops such as the ones held
in Tunis are organized to train
staff from Non Headquarters
duty stations to be more effective
members of Local Salary Survey Committees
to ensure that a positive financial outcome is
reached for their colleagues. Moreover, they
offer the opportunity for GS staff to travel and
to meet and exchange ideas with colleagues
from other agencies and offices. It is also the
occasion for them to discuss various employment
related issues, specifically contracts,
performance appraisals, classification, workplace
harassment and grievance procedures.
In view of the large responses from Francophone
and Anglophone offices, FICSA
decided to have two workshops in parallel,
one in English and the other in French and
called upon its experts Mauro Pace and
Franco di Pancrazio, both from FAO, Rome to
facilitate the workshops. Maria Dweggah,
FICSA Member of the Executive Committee
responsible for Staff/Management Relations
and Training also attended and was on
hand to answer questions regarding conditions
of service, the work of FICSA, staff
representation and some individual grievances.
UNDP, FAO, WFP, WHO, UNHCR, WHO,
ILO, UNICEF, ADF staff were represented,
from the staff associations as well as the
administrations. They came from Chad, Togo,
Burkina Faso, Ghana, Greece, Ethiopia,
South Africa, Senegal, Croatia, Gambia,
Sri Lanka, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, Ukraine,
Egypt, Denmark and of course from Tunisia.
The workshop was hosted by our colleagues
of UNDP and the African Development
Bank. Assistance was also offered by
the local WHO and UNICEF offices. This is
what collaboration is all about.
