An initiative for the creation of a new Staff Union was recently
launched by 88 WIPO staff members.
The WIPO Staff Union (WSU) held its Constituent Assembly at the
Centre de Conférences de Varembé on June 20, 2005 which elected a
committee comprising 12 members representing all categories of
personnel at WIPO. Mr. Jude Perera was elected President of the
WSU.
The newly formed Union strives for solidarity and integrity
within WIPO, and has one sole objective: «To represent and preserve
in an ethical and transparent manner the individual and collective
interests of WIPO staff».
It will take all necessary steps to gain formal status and be recognized
as a valid counterpart by the Administration.
