What happened to your contribution In response to the tragedy of Beslan?

Shuibao Liu/Susan Thompson

Although money collected for the Beslan victims last year has been given to UNICEF, you may be interested to know how exactly the funds have been spent. On Monday, 14 March 2005, Mr. Carel de Rooy, UNICEF’s Area Representative for the Russian Federation and Belarus, accompanied by Ms. Angela Hawke, Communications Officer of UNICEF, came to the Palais des Nations to present “UNICEF response to the crisis in Beslan” in response to the generosity of UNOG staff in the face of this tragedy.

A short PowerPoint presentation, commented by Mr. De Rooy, documented the four-stage approach adopted by UNICEF to address the many practical and psychological problems resulting from the crisis, as well as photographs of the equipment, already installed, that had been provided to schools of Beslan with the funds collected at UNOG.
Mr. De Rooy pointed out that financial donations in such tragic circumstance, allowed humanitarian action to be taken much quicker and throughout his presentation often expressed his appreciation for the participation of UNOG staff. In these last days of the Staff Coordinating Council (by the time this edition of UN Special is available to staff, a new Council should be constituted) it is a pleasure to be able to provide such positive feedback to staff on the work fulfilled in 2004. The complete PowerPoint presentation is available on the UNOG Staff Council website. The following are some examples:
