Brévent pass (2368 m), peak (2525 m) and lake (2159 m)

Why Not Do It ? By André Rotach

Iam proposing a few small hikes of varying degrees of difficulty, to let you see new things, get some fresh air and relax a bit. Don’t forget: doing nothing is bad for your health. Here’s hoping you have fun hiking in pleasant and sunny weather.
Take the autoroute to Chamonix. There is a parking lot at the bottom of the Brévent télécabine lift. Take this up to Planpraz, the waystation (1,999 metres) and starting-point for the hike. Follow the signs to Col du Brévent (2,368 metres) and proceed towards the summit (2,525 metres, 40 minutes). From the peak, take the path on the right that goes down to the lake. Halfway along the lake, take the path on the right again. It takes about an hour to get down to the lake (2,159 metres). Return to the summit, and you can enjoy a 360-degree panorama view of Mont Blanc, the Aiguille du Midi, the Drus, the Aiguille Verte and to the North, and the massif Aiguilles Rouges. You can also eat here. Return by the same route, for about a 5- hour trip total , and a 900 metre change of altitude.
An alternative is, from the Brévent summit, to return down to Planpraz by the téléphérique lift.
For more details, see Chamonix, les plus belles randonnées pédestres.
Also indispensable, an IGN 3530 ET Samoëns map.
