The 33 rd UNIAG

The 2005 UN Interagency Games (UNIAG) will be hosted by the World Health Organization and will take place from 21 to 25th April 2005. Sporting disciplines in the 2005 games will be: Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Bridge, Chess, Darts, Football, Golf, Pétanque, Table Tennis, and Volleyball and, back by popular demand as a rotating discipline… swimming. Additionally, ladies’ football will make it’s first UNIAG appearance in these games!.

Why Crete

Legend tells that Zeus was born on Crete, fell in love with Europa, and had three sons, one of whom became a very powerful and successful king – Minos. Minos is everywhere, and the ruins of the palaces from the Minoneon era will be a very popular visit for both the participants of the games and their companions.

But mythology and the Island’s beautiful beaches and spectacular mountains are not the only reasons why Crete is an ideal location for the IAG games. The towns of Herak- lion and Hersonissos boast impeccable sports infrastructure, all located within a 15-20 minute drive from the hotels. Accommodation is pristine and participants will avail of 4 and 5 star hotels at unbeatable prices!

The UNIAG

Founded in 1968, the United Nations Inter- Agency Games is an annual sports competition bringing together staff members of the Organizations and Specialized Agencies of the United Nations System. The purpose of the UNIAG is to enable staff members of the Agencies and Organizations of the United Nations family to get to know each other through sports, thereby improving mutual understanding, working relations and camaraderie.

Come join us for some sporting fun in Crete

Registration for the Games will begin as early as December, and must be done via the organizers in each Organization / Agency (please see list) Flights with negotiated tariffs (direct charter flights where feasible) will be organized through Grecomar Touristik & Yachting e.K.
