Prendre la route de Meyrin, passer la douane et, au rond-point de Saint-Genis, tourner à gauche en direction de Thoiry par la départementale 984 et, depuis Collonges- Fort-l’Ecluse, la nationale 206. Traverser Bellegarde pour rejoindre un parking (point de départ) situé sur la droite, immédiatement après un rond-point et le viaduc du chemin de fer.
Remonter le cours de la rivière sur la rive droite. Le chemin passe près d’une ancienne guérite des douanes (France- Savoie en 1760, zone franche franco-suisse en 1815 et zone libre rive droite en 1940). Traverser une passerelle du nom de passe- relle Convert pour aller sur la rive gauche. On arrive à la centrale télémécanique, puis au moulin Métral, au barrage et au Pont des Oulles. Retour par le même chemin. Durée du parcours: environ 1h30. Itinéraire très facile et très bien aménagé par la ville de Bellegarde.

I am proposing a few small hikes of varying degrees of difficulty,
to let you see new things, get some fresh air and relax a bit. Don’t
forget: doing nothing is bad for your health. Here’s hoping you
have days of fun hiking and relaxing in pleasant and sunny weather.
A walk along the Valserine
From Geneva, take the Route de Meyrin through the customs post to the St.Genis roundabout. Head west (left) towards Thoiry on departmental road 984; after Collongesl’Ecluse, this becomes the Route nationale
206. At Bellegarde, drive through town until you reach a roundabout; on your right, immediately after passing under the high railroad bridge, turn into a parking lot. This is the starting-point of the hike.
Follow the river upstream on its right bank. The path proceeds past a small customs hut, at what had once marked the France-Savoie border after 1760, the French-Swiss zone franche after 1815 and, on the right bank, the Free French zone from 1940 to 1942. You will have to cross a footbridge called the passerelle Convert to reach the left bank. Further along, you pass the mechanical facilities and the Métral mill at Pont des Oulles dam.
The return walk takes the same route. Time of the hike: one and a half hours. A very easy walk, and one that is well maintained by the town of Bellegarde. A map and literature are available at the Bellegarde tourist office.
