Communication – Statement

by the UNOG Staff Co-ordinating Council

Deeply concerned by attacks against United Nations staff members working in pursuit of peace,

Wishing to maintain its contribution to the ideals of the United Nations,

Anxious to draw attention to the work and sacrifice of the numerous staff committed to helping the Secretary- General in his fight for peace and the development of women and men all over the world,

Remembering the tragedy that took place in Baghdad on 19 August 2003,

Requests that the Secretary-General declare 19 August Commemorative Day of United Nations staff who have lost their lives in the service of peace.
