Were you aware that?

GPAFI at your service since 45 years

Conditions of service governing staff members under short-term contract have been ignored for a long time.

Fortunately, now, things have improved and staff members under short-term contact are entitled to full rights regarding the United Nations staff mutual insurance society against sickness and accident after 6 months of continuous service.

Please also note that GPAFI is now able to provide a more comprehensive coverage scheme for loss of salary due to illness, specifically adapted to the present restricted administrative rights of short-term staff, namely, only 2 days of full salary per month.

A staff member signing for one week or so will probably not be interested by this type of insurance, but, for a one month contract, it may become crucial to receive indemnities in case of absence due to illness. Bills have to be paid anyway.

The flexibility of the scheme allows one to choose the level of coverage (after 2 days, 7 days or even 14 days), the latter having of course a bigger repercussion on the premium. Filling a health certificate and providing a copy of the contract is sufficient to initiate the coverage with the Genevoise SA insurance. Any new contract within the next 3 months is accepted for the prolongation of the insurance. Premiums should be paid in advance to GPAFI. This entitles GPAFI to reimburse 80% of the deducted part of the salary upon receipt of the salary slip.

This new insurance scheme is fortunately accessible to anyone.

Furthermore, one should keep in mind that insurance premiums are always too high when you do not need medical treatment, but become advantageous whenever you ask for indemnities.
