UNSpecial N° 600 — Octobre – October 2001

J-M Jakobowicz The UN – It’s Over !

A Geneva professor, a so-called expert in UN matters, once again announced a few days ago, that following the tragic events that occurred in New York, the UN was finished. Beyond the fact that this professor could once in a while change his tune, if he had any vision of what is happening, he would have said exactly the opposite.

A plague without borders can only be fought by a global organization. If we want to fight terrorism efficiently the UN is surely the best place to do it.

As for the sceptics I would send them back to other sceptics who, a few years ago could not envisage how the United Nations could pursue former Statesmen who were killing and torturing without conscience. Since then, thanks to the UN International Court no dictator can ever be sure to peacefully finish his life in a safe and comfortable paradise. Why not trust once more the UN and tomorrow, if Member States help, terrorists will know no respite any more.
